The founders of the 1912 Winemakers, António Monteiro and Edmar Monteiro, are two brothers born in the Douro region, known for their excellence in wine classification. From the time they were little they helped their father around the property, the Quinta de São Bernardo, located on the banks of the river Douro, dating from 1912, whose centennial strains give rise to the high quality wines produced today by the company.

These wines come from a careful selection of grapes and a careful production process that is later reflected in the final product. Later they would come to acquire Quinta da Água, where they expanded their production a lot, always taking into account the same quality standards. This Company was born of a mixture of passion and care for traditions.
