Some years ago, a construction worker found a 100 years old vineyard on the middle of a village named Almeirim. While digging in the vicinity of the new buildings, vine roots were found extending 7 meters below the surface. This discovery got the attenting of Monte Cascas winemakers that remembered what Cincinato da Costa wrote in 1900 (et al Portugal Vinicola). He said the best sites for the Fernão Pires grape variety were in deep soils in the transition areas from “clay” to “sand” in the Tejo region, exactly where this vineyard stands. The adventure of this bottle starts in this story and ends with exceptional wine made from grapes from vines dating more than 100 yeras old surrounded by roads and buildings.
