The 120 winemakers who participated in the National Wine Evaluation Screening – Safra 2018 finalized yesterday the August 23rd, the important mission of blind tasting and evaluating the 351 samples registered by 50 wineries from six Brazilian states (Bahia, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo). There were 24 hours of tasting in eight days. The work was carried out in the Laboratory of Sensory Analysis of Embrapa Grape and Wine, in Bento Gonçalves. The expectation is great because of the high quality that confirmed in the cup the excellence of the 2018 harvest.
The president of the Brazilian Enolian Association (ABE) – promoter – winemaker, Edegar Scortegagna, who accompanied the work, highlights the perception of the winemakers involved. “The comments converged on the challenge of sampling samples of such quality, which proves that the 2018 harvest really was excellent. Many winemakers have stated that red wines are of the highest quality. The whites and sparkling base we have known for many years that in general always excel. This year, the high standard is also noticed in the reds. Scortegagna also highlights the participation of winemakers. “Of the 120 winemakers convened by the ABE for the eight days tastings, 100% attended. This shows the seriousness and commitment of the entity and the winemakers with the Evaluation, “he reinforces.
With the Selection Tasting closed, it is time to focus on the great show that is the dissemination of the result to the public on September 29, in Pavilion E of the Park of Events of Bento Gonçalves. Registration opens on September 4 at www.enologia.org.br. There will be about 900 lovers who will know the ratio of the 30% most representative in each of the five categories. The public can also taste 16 samples selected among the 30%, proving in the cup the representativeness of the 2018 crop.
